TOURISM AUSTRALIA AND AUSTRADE: A STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
Tourism Australia and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) formed a partnership in 2012 to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in tourism product. The Partnership is a commitment to give information and assistance to interested investors by providing them with information and insight on Australia’s tourism infrastructure opportunities. There is also a commitment to coordinate the relationship between investors and the various state and territory agencies to make the process of investment easier.
The Partnership was formed in response to the national long-term tourism strategy Tourism 2020 whereby the Australian and state and territory governments are working with industry to grow the sector to more than $115 billion annually by the end of the decade. A core pillar of Tourism 2020 is the nomination of tourism as a national investment priority. Investment in Australian tourism infrastructure means more capital city accommodation, rejuvenated product in our regional areas, state-of-the-art business events facilities and innovative leisure attractions and experiences to meet the growing demand of Australia’s tourism industry.
